Car insurance is one of our most unavoidable expenses so we must all strive to get the most affordable auto insurance if possible. We all know that common factors that affect the prices are age, sex, car type and driving record but auto insurance agents also reveal some other factors that they consider and why.

1. Credit report. Insurance companies are now checking credit because people with poor credit are statistically more like to file more claims. Insurance relies highly on numbers so when statistics suggest that people with bad credit have a higher probability of claims. Keep your credit score in check (or at least work to improve it). This would greatly increase our chances of getting cheap auto insurance.
2. Shop around and get as many auto insurance quotes as possible. Not all companies put so much value on our credit score so even if you have a good record it may not always mean lower auto insurance premiums. Even so, it is still better for us anyway if we have a good driving record. Therefore, as a consumer, it is our job to shop around and find the best insurers that fits our needs.
3. Stay out of accidents and tickets. Some companies will drop you if you have had too much tickets and accidents, as you will then be considered a high risk. Knowing this, it is very tempting to lie to your auto insurance agent about your record but this one thing that we should avoid! They can easily look up our driving records on their computer. Try to avoid mishaps and accidents and you will be able to keep the cost of your car insurance down.
4. Know what your current car insurance policy covers. You may have coverage that you don't need so adjust your coverage to get the car insurance that you need, with the price that matches your budget.
